Intentionally Preparing for A New School Year

It’s our last week of break before we start a new school year, and I am spending these final days preparing in a few intentional ways. ⁣

The schedule is built, the lessons are planned for the first 6 weeks, and all materials are prepped and organized. ⁣

Those things are intentionally done in the weeks preceding this one so that my preparations this final week can be focused on orienting our hearts and minds towards our coming year. ⁣

The reality of starting High School with Teddy has me even more focused than normal on my heart’s posture toward this school year. ⁣

Here’s what I’m doing this week: ⁣

1️⃣ Go Over Schedule ⁣
Today, I’ll be sitting down with the boys and walking them through each day’s order of lessons. We will discuss what the tone, focus, length, and general expectations will be for each as we go. ⁣

2️⃣ Look Over Materials ⁣
We will then look at each and every book and resource that we will be using so that they will be familiar with the focus for each of our subjects. ⁣

3️⃣ Look Over Supplies/Organization⁣
I’ll also show/remind them where are of their supplies and personal materials are and where to find, turn in, and replace everything that they’ll need to. (Some things change every year, but particularly we moved at the end of this past school year, so this is especially needed.)⁣

4️⃣ Discuss Their Goals and Thoughts ⁣
Later this week, we will meet (including Dad) to discuss what they hope for, are aiming for, and are looking forward to (and not) for this year. I’ll ask them what they believe they’ll enjoy the most and what they think they’ll struggle with the most. Dad and I will both ask how we can most help them in this specific homeschooling year. ⁣

5️⃣ Return to Routines ⁣
We will return to a normal sleep schedule, our Evening Basket, weekly checklists, etc. ⁣

6️⃣ Final Run Through⁣
I will take my schedule and walk myself through our entire week and ensure that I haven’t missed anything needed or forgotten to print, prep, or purchase anything. ⁣

7️⃣ Pray ⁣
I’ll spend this week asking God to work within and through me and to continue taking my imperfect faithfulness and making it more than the sum of its parts. ♥️
